Healing Your Space With Organization &
Therapeutic Design

Oh, Hi There!
My name is Terra Nova but most call me Terra. I am an animal lover and a plant person and when I have spare time I'm either with my children, in the garden, tending to my massive collection of house plants, or out enjoying nature. I feel a deep connection to the natural world and like to use plants, herbs, and natural elements to create holistic remedies and creative art projects. I am a very blessed mother of two magical neurodivergent children. Our son Maverick was diagnosed with autism at age 5. My happy go lucky daughter and I both have ADHD, which comes with sensory sensitivities. I have spent my entire life designing our spaces geared towards therapeutic/sensory design and I never even identified it that way. I have dedicated the last 17 years as a red seal structural ironworker. My husband and I have bought and completely renovated two homes and have done multiple upgrades on two more to date. Including successfully completing a full scale renovation on our log home which sat on 160 acres of farm land. From big city slickers, small towners, rural hobby farmers and now settling in our forever home in the beautiful coastal town of Campbell River. Vancouver Island is home and where my husband Luke is from and where my ancestors have laid deep roots.
My passion has always been home beautification and interior design. I believe those with certain sensitivities tend to pick up on poor light ambience, improper room set up and uncomfortable sound much more acutely than most. Which in my case has helped me create an adaptable and positive flowing energy in my home. I am able to identify challenges individuals face due to physical, cognitive, or sensory impairments, which is knowledge I have learned through my own personal experiences from my children, family, friends and myself as well. I am a highly intuitive person and pick up on the personal energies and general needs of others quickly. I am looking forward to applying my skills, knowledge and compassionate, friendly and warm-hearted approach, to the town of Campbell River, BC. For many years to come.

Our little families story...

Our little family has recently suffered through four significant deaths, along with my mother in law receiving a Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) diagnosis all within two years. One of the deaths was her husband and that loss led us to the next chapter of our lives. We quickly offered our home to her after the death and I was honored to create a designated space for her downstairs to accommodate her declining mobility issues and of course try to soothe her mental well being. We have been blessed to be involved with our mothers journey as we all navigate through the process of this uncurable disease. Its the environments in which we live in, that effects the way we think, feel and behave. I believe incorporating therapeutic design elements and creating a more organized environment, can greatly improve many of the mental health issues we all face. It has greatly benefited our family. Providing us with the option to find our own designated spaces set up in our home to self regulate during physical and mental health challenges.

I got the idea while speaking with my husband one night after another overwhelming day. As I looked at the window display I had set up in my room. I mentioned to him how much I loved that window. As it distracted me from my anxiety, grief and exhaustion. That moment I felt an overwhelming sense of calm. In that time of our lives was a feeling I never expected to enjoy. “If this window can help me self regulate. I can widen that philosophy and showcase it to the community!” and with our personal experiences, skills, and as we continue to understand more about the individual struggles, people are facing with mental health on a daily basis. Terra Nova's healing homes will help by creating a balanced, functional and calming environment for all who are ready to invite us in.
